The Gorge

Here is some of the VFX concept work I contributed for the movie ‘The Gorge’ with the dneg art department back in 2022. It was a challenging but rewarding show to have been involved with. I want to shout out to my work colleagues Nadezda Kuzmina, Paolo Giandoso, Antony Nguyen, Arnaud Vallette, Stephaine Levalois, and Ivan Solyeav as it was very much a collaborative process. There was great work on this show from all the different studios and I’m proud to have played a small part in this interesting project—Thank you to my ADs Ravi and Mark for the opportunity.

My design for the alpha's head. I attempted to be bold with the branches. I liked the alpha's eventual design, which had another layer of complexity. I was also inspired by the wonderful traditional production sculpts used in the project.

This head was developed from a chosen piece of concept art from another studio artist. The body design was eventually developed further by framestore.

What was interesting to me was finding a sadness and emptiness in the creatures. Like a grotesque Beauty. This was one of the better experiements.

This was kitbashed from some 3d elements from another shot by Antony Nguyen. I had fun working out the readability in the chaos of this frame.

This head was inspired by some work from Aaron sims company that they kept going back to. Thankyou to Paolo Giandoso for some photo elements.
